About Joseph Kimble
Joseph Kimble has taught legal writing at Thomas Cooley Law School since 1982. He has given more than 100 seminars and presentations throughout the United States and abroad. He is the editor in chief of The Scribes Journal of Legal Writing, the longtime editor of the “Plain Language” column in the Michigan Bar Journal, the past president of the international organization Clarity, and the drafting consultant on all federal court rules. He recently led the work of redrafting the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and the Federal Rules of Evidence. He won a prestigious Burton Award for Reform in Law for his work on the civil rules, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from his fellow law-school writing teachers.
Professor Kimble has published dozens of articles on legal writing and legal drafting. And he is the author of the acclaimed book Lifting the Fog of Legalese: Essays on Plain Language, which will also be used at the seminar.
